Facts about The Big Freeport Indian

The Big Freeport Indian (BFI) was originally commissioned by the Leslie Family, who opened Casco Bay Trading Post in 1947.  The BFI was built in Pennsylvania and transported to Maine on a flatbed truck in 1969. It weighs 1,500 pounds, and is 8’ wide and 30’ tall. The BFI is made of wood and fiberglass and has served as the unofficial gateway to Freeport for more than 40 years. Winter People has lovingly restored both this iconic Route One landmark, and the original Casco Bay Trading Post building back to their original glory. In an effort to help bring the Casco Bay Trading Post back to a shopping destination Winter People has created 3 retail stores within the building.  It is now home to the Big Indian Country Store, Great Stuff Consignment, and Pillars Antiques.  Come by and visit the Big Freeport Indian and its shops at Casco Bay Trading Post today!
